Hi everyone,
We need help our regiment The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry a TA regiment since 1794 is under threat of splitting and disbanding. The regiments headquarters in Dawley Bank, Telford and four squadrons with Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire based in Dudley could be split to allow for the creation of a Scottish Yeomanry due to the Defence cuts. The Dudley base is home to A squadron This will lead to the loss of 100 soldiers despite Government plans to double the number of TA soldiers to 30,000. A petition has been set up to stop this move by Hannah Bragg whose husband Major Tom Bragg leads A Squadron. The petition can be found at epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/49480. Please sign the petition and save our regiment.
The Webmaster approves this request as two HSF Squadrons were capbadged with antecedent Regiments of The RMLY.
These were QOMY at Telford, Shropshire, and DLOY at Chorley, Lancs.
We met a number of the QOMY HSF lads at Brian Turner’s funeral but it seems they do not get together frequently.
HSF Veterans from the DLOY have either chosen not to contact the HSFA, or have not formed a local HSF Veterans Association.
We urge HSF Veterans from Telford and Chorley to complete the Feedback page of this website.
You may be interested to know that The HSFA was treated to an extremely interesting lecture, in 2011, by a RMLY Major, at our Annual Reunion weekend.
